Anonymous asked: is "Gates of Dawn" the costume for next year?
ohman, that would be the best thing, i’d have to work on my abs a lot though, did you see that babe? i’m actually thinking of trying to pull off a mucha, they have all the best accessories and i could carry around a big art nouveau frame all night to maintain my personal space (that was easily the best thing about having a bulky cardboard aspect to my costume)
yes yes yes i only want to do art history costumes ever! i’m so envious it came out PERFECT. was going to do the same thing this year but hurricane sandy was a bitch, stealing this next year though!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! AND PLEASE DO! it was honestly so ridiculously easy, just took some patience to do the face paint and even that didn’t take as long as i thought it would! sandy ruined a lot of things but i’m so glad you stayed safe, i need you to have a california visit and a me in ny and us crying in museums and getting drunk and macking visit and i need to see you do lichtenstein next year (for which you already have the perfect eyebrows i just realized!) and because i love you and think you are awesome.

Herbert James Draper
The Gates of Dawn (with detail), 1900, oil on canvas, 198 x 101 cm, Royal Academy of Arts, London.
Herbert James Draper was an English Classicist painter. In his most productive period he focused mainly on mythological themes from ancient Greece.
In this painting though Draper painted Aurora, the Roman Goddess of the Dawn. In Roman mythology Aurora renews herself every morning and flies across the sky, announcing the arrival of the sun.
Florrie Bird was the model for this masterpiece. She was a popular model in London at the turn of the 19th century and used to model for other Draper’s paintings as well.
